What do I need to know before I schedule my occupational therapy appointment?

The majority of �鶹��Ƶ therapy centers require a physician’s referral for occupational therapy. If you’re referred for therapy, your provider will write a referral or prescription and send it to the center of your choice. The �鶹��Ƶ scheduling team will then reach out to schedule the first appointment.

To avoid unexpected costs, we recommend checking with your insurance to verify the requirements for coverage, as well as to confirm the total number of sessions covered by your plan.

We also offer financial assistance and self-pay options if you do not have insurance or occupational therapy is not covered by your plan.

What typically occurs during an occupational therapy appointment?

During an occupational therapy appointment, the therapist reviews your medical history, assesses your functional abilities and discusses daily activities. They develop a personalized treatment plan with exercises and adaptive techniques to improve independence, safety and quality of life, monitoring and adjusting as needed.

I am scheduled for an occupational therapy appointment. What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing, generally sweatpants or shorts if your condition involves a lower extremity. A sports bra or tank top is preferred for examination of your upper body. For specific treatments, we may ask you to put on a cotton hospital gown to protect your clothing, but this is not common.

How long will my appointment last?

Visits can last 30 - 60 minutes.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Be sure to bring the following to your therapy appointment:

Physician referral
Health insurance card
Photo ID (such as a driver's license)

How will my doctor monitor my progress?

Your therapist will send the initial evaluation report to your doctor within 48 hours of your first appointment. Progress reports will be sent every 30 days or before any appointments with your physician.
